As part of one's MPhys degree at ManchesterUniversity every student has to take a course called "Project skills". At the beginning of the semester students form teams of eight to nine, the teams are allocated based on a test you take to determine what type of team worker you are. The teams then have to choose a topic and prepare a report. The scenario is a bit like a "Royal Commission", the reprot has to come to a conclusion and make some recommendations to e.g. the government. My team will be investigating the technical challenges/feasibility and the ethical considerations of a nationwide DNA database in the UK. Such a database was recently suggested by a High Court judge. The UK currently operates a DNA database which contains the DNA of every person since 1995 suspected of a recordable offence(drink driving is one).
