Spell checker
If, like me, you prefer english over american then the fact that firefox comes with en-US as the default dictionary for the builtin spell checker and doesnt provide an easy way of changing that here is a recipe. There is a british english dictionary available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3 unfortunately it claims to not work with firefox 2.0.0.2 or 2.0.0.3. This limitation is arbitrary. One way to fix it is described here. For me the first way did not work, so I settled for unzip'ing the xpi and copying the two files in the dictionaries directory to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/dictionaries, do not forget to chmod them!
So far it works like a charm.
